Susan G. Komen Ozark is opening an affiliate office in Fort Smith and has hired Teresa Jones as the local coordinator.

Jones will coordinate educational programming and community outreach in Sebastian and Crawford counties. Programs, target demographic groups and geographic areas will be determined on needs and gaps in breast health services identified through Komen Ozark‟s “Community Profile.” The Community Profile is a study compiled every other year with data and information collected from health care providers in the Komen Ozark eight-county service area.

During the past 10 years, Komen Ozark has issued more than $1 million in grant funds to provide mammograms, biopsies, wigs, turbans, gas cards and educational programs in the River Valley. However, this is the first time the local Komen affiliate has had an employee stationed in Fort Smith.
