Pratt & Whitney PSD in Springdale made $6 million in capital improvements since 2013 and has added about 50 jobs since last year, according to the company.

The investment was prompted by a 60 percent uptick in volume since 2010 at the aerospace repair facility, said general manager Mike Finan, in a press conference on May 27.

Big purchases included two vertical turret lathe machines, one mill, one heat treat furnace and four plasma-coating operations, he said.

Pratt & Whitney PSD is one of 13 repair facilities for Pratt & Whitney, a commercial and military aerospace manufacturer that reported $14.5 billion in revenue in 2013.

Kip Wyman, vice president of operations at the Connecticut-based company, said investing money in the Springdale facility “was an easy decision, and the main reason for that is the workforce. The level of expertise and the type of equipment available here are fairly unique.”

Pratt & Whitney, founded in 1925, is part of multinational conglomerate United Technologies Corp.

Pratt & Whitney PSD has been open since 1994 and has 184 employees.

U.S. Sen. Tom Cotton and U.S. Rep. Steve Womack attended the press conference.
