Bentonville Bowling

You may have heard Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is planning a Neighborhood Market along North Walton Boulevard at 902 N.W. 14th St. in Bentonville.

The proposed site is interesting for two reasons. The first is its close proximity to Harps Food Store, which opened the doors to its 37,000-SF Bentonville location in March 2013, about 200 yards away from the site targeted by Walmart.

The second being that the Walmart development means the end of the Bentonville Bowling Center, in operation at the proposed location since the 1970s.

We called the business and were told the 20-lane alley officially closed Aug. 2.

Former Tontitown mayor Tommy Granata has owned the alley since 1996. We tried reaching him for an update to ask about a possible relocation but weren’t successful.
