Average home prices dropped statewide in March, but Benton and Washington counties experienced a slight rise, according to a report released May 2 by the Arkansas Realtors Association.

The average price of new and existing homes sold throughout Arkansas in March was $146,493, showing a 4.7-percent drop from that month the previous year. 

Benton County ranked second, below Izard County, for the highest home price, with an average price of $185,589.

Washington County came in fourth, after Pulaski County, with an average home price of $173,384.

For both Benton and Washington counties, the prices represent a slight bump, at 1.7 percent, from the previous year.

Home values also dropped 4.7 percent statewide. Benton County topped the list of highest home values at $68.1 million, with Washington County ranking third, behind Pulaski County, at $39.7 million.

The data showed no change in the number of homes sold statewide in March compared to those sold the previous year. However, there was a 6-percent increase in the number of homes sold between January and March over the same period in 2013.

Benton County topped the list of number of units sold in March 2014, and Washington County ranked third, behind Pulaski County.

The ARA notes in the report the information covers only properties sold by certified Realtors reporting through participating multiple-listing services in 43 counties throughout Arkansas.
