Sugar Bowl Trickle Down

Everybody knows by now the University of Arkansas’ payout for playing in the Allstate Sugar Bowl was about $17 million. That’s before it becomes part of the Southeastern Conference bowl pie, of course.

We also know coach Bobby Petrino realized a $75,000 bonus, while athletic director Jeff Long got $25,000. What never ceases to amaze us, though, is how many other people profit from the Hogs’ success.

One interesting example we came across was Frances Mayo at Around the World Travel in Springdale. She had booked 70 hotel rooms as of Dec. 14 – a pretty nice end-of-year pick-me-up.

The trickle-down notion continued on game night, when we understand Guido’s Pizza in Tontitown took orders for 110 pies during a two-hour span prior to kickoff. Now that’s a lot of dough.
