Oct. 9 was a rewarding night for KNWA/KFTA-TV, Channels 51/24.

r

KFTA won “Best Evening Newscast Market 50+” for its 9 p.m. Fox 24 New Edge program, while KNWA anchor Neile Jones picked up two first-place prizes from the Arkansas Society of Professional Journalists for a series dealing with domestic violence.

r

KNWA/KFTA general manager Mike Vaughn said it was the first time in at least 10 years one company brought home top honors in both categories. KNWA/KFTA is owned by Nexstar Broadcasting, Inc. of Irving, Texas.

r

“Quite frankly, for a market of this size, it’s the best of both worlds,” Vaughn said. “I’m so proud of both of them.”

r

Fox 24 News Edge won in a category that included stations based in Little Rock and Springfield, Mo. Jones’ series featured firsthand stories of surviving – and overcoming – domestic violence from people ranging from Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe to University of Arkansas football player D.J. Williams.

KNWA also was awarded the Community Service Television award by the Arkansas Broadcasters Association at the event.
