State Lands $1M For Bats Study

Arkansas is set to receive more than $998,000 in federal money as part of a multi-state study on white nose syndrome, which is considered a threat to cave-dwelling bats.
The money is part of almost $5 million awarded to six states by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The aim is to help protect species with the greatest conservation need. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will get an additional $450,797 in non-federal matching funds, either from the state of Arkansas or other project partners.
Other states included in the project are Alabama, Delaware, Florida, Michigan, North Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia and Wisconsin. Bat Conservation International of Austin, Texas also will participate.
