Longtime UA Ushers Retire

A pair of friendly faces will be missed at University of Arkansas basketball games for the rest of the season.

And, no, we’re not talking about more player suspensions.

It seems longtime head ushers Jim Phillips and Curtis Yates have retired. And while the retirement of a couple of ushers might not seem like as big a deal as the return of a certain dreadlocked dribbler to most Hog fans, anyone who ever needed the assistance of Phillips and/or Yates over the years surely learned what we’ve known for a long time: You’d be hard-pressed to find two nicer guys.

The UA apparently is replacing Phillips and Yates by hiring a full-time event manager. The job listing was posted on the school’s Web site on Nov. 19 of last year, but has since been removed.
