Wal-Mart Gets Boss Box
Following the lead of Garth Brooks, The Eagles, Journey and AC/DC, “The Boss” Bruce Springsteen will release a greatest hits collection exclusively through Wal-Mart on Jan. 13.
Some of the industry’s biggest names have signed exclusive deals with Wal-Mart in exchange for a larger cut of the sales.
With the exception of Brooks, who music snobs most likely associate with Wal-Mart’s more blue-collar customer base, the other exclusive announcements have usually generated some version of “Noooooo!” from their fans.
We can’t help but get a kick out of it whenever those fans find out their supposedly anti-establishment rock heroes are actually capitalists.
Of course, the other question that came to mind related to Springsteen’s non-stop campaigning for President-elect Barack Obama.
Obama, a staunch advocate for anti-Wal-Mart organized labor, said during the primary campaign that he wouldn’t shop at Wal-Mart.
Maybe Springsteen can give the greatest hits collection to him as an inauguration gift — with the tag removed of course.
