Green Fayetteville
Fayetteville is working on an initiative to attract companies that focus on green technologies. The goal – to become the center of the universe for future sustainability.
Steve Rust, president and CEO of the Fayetteville Economic Development Council, said the initiative is a group effort. Along with the Council, the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce and the University of Arkansas are working on ways to lure companies to the area.
As part of the effort, they have attracted the interest of a person who is creating a venture capital fund of $100 million. The money will be used to jumpstart sustainable-oriented companies or help expand current companies. More information on this program may be clear by the end of the year.
With Wal-Mart in the area trying to become a world leader in sustainable efforts and with the resources at the UA, a number of green companies may be setting up camp and prospering in this market.
