The competition for top-shelf, tapped-in banking officers has heated up in the super-banked Northwest Arkansas market.

Joe Spivey, former vice president of business development for First Security Bank, has jumped ship and joined Liberty Bank of Arkansas as the senior vice president for business development and commercial lending. He will work from the yet-to-be-completed Liberty office at 40th and Walnut streets in Rogers.

Spivey, considered by some to be “the next Dick Trammel,” said he likes the direction and leadership of the bank and is excited about growing Liberty’s market share.

Jonesboro-based Liberty Bank just entered the Northwest Arkansas market in late 2004 when its holding company, Liberty Bancshares Inc., purchased 80 percent of Siloam Springs’ Arkansas State Bank for $23.7 million.

As of June 30, Liberty had $199 million in deposits in the two-county area, or about 3.3 percent of the market share. As of Sept. 30, the bank had $1.34 billion in assets statewide.
