Forty Under 40: Scott Powell
Scott Powell has always had an interest in finance.
“Money affects everybody,” he said. “I’ve always been fascinated by it.”
Powell earned his bachelor’s degree in organizational management from John Brown University in 2005, and completed his master’s in business administration from the University of Arkansas in 2011.
Powell began working for A.G. Edwards in Springdale in 2001 before moving on to Morgan Stanley and then Arvest Bank.
He started with First Security Bank in 2008 in trust and wealth management.
In June, he was promoted to chief investment officer.
One of his biggest achievements, Powell said, is being a part of merging three trust departments successfully.
His future goal, he said, is to make First Security the premier wealth management and trust company in the state.
Powell said his secret to success is to never settle and always be willing to learn.
“I’m very competitive, I like to be good at what I do,” he said. “I never really settle for second best. I work until I get the results I want.”
His competitive spirit serves him well as a U.S. Soccer Federation-certified coach for a girls’ youth soccer team.
“I love seeing how quickly children that age can develop when they care and when people around them care,” Powell said.
