Pleasant Crossing Plans for Imax

Pleasant Crossing developers have another ace up their sleeve: an IMAX theater.

The total theater project will now be 60,000 SF, up from the 50,000-SF, 12-screen, stadium seating Malco cinema complex already planned for construction this spring in the 345-acre project. Pleasant Crossing is slated to include 1.2 million SF of retail.

A representative from IMAX Corp. said the publicly traded firm does not usually pay for its own construction cost, and the bare minimum to install an IMAX would be $1.6 million. But that’s if an Imax was retrofitted into an existing stadium-seating theater.

Pleasant Crossing is being developed by partners BOS Group LLC of Washington, D.C., Charles Reaves of Rogers, Greenhat Partners of Memphis and First Security Vanadis of Searcy.

IMAX movie theaters feature surround digital sound and powerful video projectors that advance the film at 24 frames per second on a screen up to eight stories high, the IMAX Web site claims.

There are 125 Imax theaters in the United States and 250 worldwide in 36 countries. The closest IMAX Theater to Rogers in Branson, Mo.
