Accounting & Payroll Not A State-sanctioned Firm

A business card from Accounting & Payroll LLC lists accounting as one of its primary services.

But the Springdale business is not a state-sanctioned accounting firm because it is not registered with the Arkansas State Board of Public Accountancy and its principal is not a CPA.

According to a spokesman from the board, any business in the state holding itself out as an accounting firm is required to be registered with that office.

Max Domingo, principal of the business, said he recently learned that he was supposed to be registered with the ASBPA and that his certification from California was not valid in Arkansas.

He plans to sit for the CPA exam in January and is “outsourcing” his accounting work until that time, he said.

Domingo claims, contrary to the ASBPA, he can operate his business as an accounting firm without being registered. However, he did note he would have to include a disclaimer on all of his letterhead, billing and collateral materials that he was not a certified public accountant until he is up to par with the board.

A spokeswoman from the board agreed.
