Morning News Headline Says Pubic Shaming O.K.

We noticed this headline on the front of the Nation & World section in The Morning News on Aug. 11: “Pubic Shaming Ruled Appropriate For Sentencing.”

We’re pretty sure the headline writer meant to say “public shaming.”

Lesbian Couple Display Ad Shocks Some

We hear a display advertisement in the Aug. 15 issue of The Morning News prompted some readers to cancel their subscriptions.

The ad, on the classified section front, showed one woman on her knee holding the hand of another woman, who is standing in the photo.

The caption read: “Samantha, Happy 1 year anniversary. I love you! Love, Kellie.”

That seems unusual for Springdale, the city where The Morning News is based and home to First Baptist Church of Springdale, the largest Protestant church in Arkansas.

We left messages for Tom Stalbaumer, publisher of The Morning News, but didn’t hear back from him before our deadline.
