Car Causes $100,000 in Damages to Lazenby Building

Drivers by the headquarters of Lazenby Real Estate on College Avenue may have been wondering about the collapsed concrete awning that had been on the building since 1955.

“Are they under construction? Did lightening strike the building’s face? Is someone after them?”

The answer is none of the above. Apparently, on a recent stormy night, a mid-1990s model Chevrolet Caprice ran into the building and continued on into the waiting room.

Bill Lazenby said the car was identified in the hit-and-run building accident because the tail lights have distinctive numbers on them. He estimated the damage to the building to be more than $100,000. What’s more is that portions of the four-by-six inch tile that were used in the original construction have been ruined and are irreplaceable.

Lazenby said he doesn’t know what the reconstruction will look like yet. He said the building is covered by a policy from Walker Brothers Insurance of Springdale, after a $2,500 deductible.
