Minnelli Show Gets Changes
We understand Liza Minnelli’s Jan. 30 Little Rock performance has been tweaked a bit, and she now won’t be backed by the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra.
Instead, the orchestra will perform for 30 minutes and then Minnelli will hit the stage of the Robinson Center with her own 17-piece band, presumably to belt out “New York! New York!” and other faves.
The reason for the change — at least the reason musicians have been given — has to do with Liza-With-a-Z’s exceedingly messy divorce from David Gest, who has called himself a “world renowned event and concert producer-promoter.”
It seems Gest has possession of the orchestral arrangements for Liza’s songs and has refused to hand them over.
Orchestra spokeswoman Margaret Williams wouldn’t even confirm that the program had changed.
