Construction of a four-story, 72,000-SF, 117-room Courtyard by Marriott hotel in Fayetteville’s CMN Business Park should begin sometime in the first quarter of 2004, said Curtis Wegner of Memphis, one of three developers of the project.

“We’re scheduled for a late fourth quarter opening,” he said.

Wegner said the $9.9 million project has been moving slowly since it was approved by the Fayetteville Planning Commission last March.

“We bought the land,” Wegner said. “We’re moving forward ever so slowly. I’m about three days from closing, but I’ve been about three days from closing for two months now. I’ve got $1.1 million of my own money in it, so it’s going to happen.”

Initial plans for the hotel fell through after the terrorism of Sept. 11, 2001. At that time, it was planned for a location on Millsap Road.

Wegner is chief manager of Hotel Development LLC of Memphis and managing partner of Fayetteville Hotel LLC. Tom Ricketts of Master Hospitality in Memphis will be the managing partner and operator of the Fayetteville Marriott. Kevin Kelly of the Pendat Group in Memphis is another partner.
