American Eagle Airlines said recently that it will open a new maintenance facility at the Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport in Highfill.

Stan Henderson, American Eagle’s chief operating officer, said the new facility will employ about 60 full-time mechanics who will perform “line” maintenance, or routine overnight maintenance and repair or replacement of parts, on the airline’s fleet of CRJ-700s.

American Eagle will move into the new facility in mid-January, with the first maintenance to be scheduled in the facility in March, Henderson said.

“Thanks to the strong support we’ve enjoyed from Northwest Arkansas travelers, we’ve been able to continue adding service from Northwest Arkansas, and we’re now the largest provider of air service to this region,” Henderson said.

Based in Fort Worth, Texas, American Airlines affiliate American Eagle was the first airline to serve XNA when the airport opened in November 1998. American Eagle and American Connection, another American Airlines affiliate, operate 21 daily flights to five cities: Chicago, St. Louis, Dallas/Fort Worth, New York City and Los Angeles.
