Bob Gets a Holt of Frank

Bob Holt, the University of Arkansas men’s basketball beat writer and general Razorback expert for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, wrote two of the most enterprising local sports stories we’ve seen in a while.

In a Jan. 19 article, Holt had a marvelous story on Frank Broyles’ career as the UA athletic director. In it, Holt talks to many of the former UA coaches Broyles fired over the years. Many of the former coaches had praise for Broyles, even Lou Holtz, Eddie Sutton and Danny Ford. Some of the comments were, shall we say, very frank. Holt also tied in the timely reasons for each firing from both the coaches’ and Broyles’ points of view.

And in a Jan. 29 article, Holt gave us the most professional piece we’ve seen on fired Razorback coach Nolan Richardson’s lawsuit against the UA. Holt went deep into the fine print of Richardson’s contract. Holt also managed to get two sources to admit Richardson has been receiving checks from the Razorback Foundation and cashing them. The Razorback Foundation is responsible for the financial settlement of Richardson’s contract.
