Jeff Krupsaw’s Arkansas Democrat-Gazette sports section showed again on June 12 why it is the state’s best individual daily newspaper section. We wouldn’t say the same for each section of the statewide daily, but its sports section is without peer.

Krupsaw, the D-G’s deputy sports editor, runs the day-to-day operations of the department. He also generally directs big story and art element “packages” like the one the department rightfully did to commemorate the June 11 retirement of Norm DeBriyn, the University of Arkansas’ baseball coach for the last 33 years.

Steve Goff, the D-G’s Northwest Arkansas sports editor, apparently also had a hand in coordinating the June 12 “package,” which included seven stories and 15-18 photo and graphic elements, depending on how they’re counted. Reporters Bob Holt and Rick Fires also contributed especially good reporting.
