Steve and Paula Melody plan to close Melody’s Choices at 414 W. Dickson St. in Fayetteville by July 31. They are currently having a sale to liquidate inventory before then.

Steve Melody has had a gift shop on Dickson Street since 1971, although the store has moved from one spot to another within the same block. The couple purchased the two-story, 4,000-SF building in 1974 for about $35,000, Paula Melody said.

She said the couple decided to close the store because they received an offer they can’t refuse. They will lease the 2,000-SF first-floor space beginning in August to David Bass. Paula Melody plans to keep her office on the second floor of the building.

On June 5, Bass applied for a liquor license for The 414 Club, a private club, at that location, according to Margie Ruple at the state Alcoholic Beverage Control Division in Little Rock.

Bass owns two bars in the Dickson Street area, Dave’s on Dickson and The Blue Parrot.

The Melodys also have two stores in the Northwest Arkansas Mall: Melody’s Choices, The Gift Store and Melody’s Choices, The Fun Store.
