Foundation Awards More Local Grants
Two more grants totaling $45,000 from the Northwest Arkansas Community Foundation were awarded in late June to local service organizations.
The Northwest Medical Center Auxiliary Fund recommended the grants, which were approved by the NWACF board of directors. They included $25,000 to support child immunizations at Community Clinic and $20,000 for education programs through “Kids For Health” at one Springdale school.
The auxiliary fund operates as a donor-advised fund within NWACF.
The Community Clinic grant will help provide vaccines to 2,800 children and working poor families in Northwest Arkansas. Kids For Health will use its $20,000 to continue services to students in kindergarten through third grade in Washington County. Each year, Kids For Health has more than 8,400 students who participate in its program on a weekly basis.
On June 19, NWACF gave $5,000 to Lane House in Eureka Springs to support summer activities for at-risk youth. The $5,000 grant marked the first one made by NWACF in Carroll County.
The Northwest Medical Center Auxiliary raises its funds from sales at a gift shop inside Springdale’s Northwest Medical Center and from its thrift shop at 400 Park Street. Volunteers run both operations. In September 2000, the Auxiliary presented a $190,000 check to the NWACF that marked a $3 million milestone for their philanthropic giving.
Northwest Arkansas Community Foundation, established in 1998 as the Community Foundation of Bentonville/Bella Vista, is the lead public foundation operated in connection with CommunityCare Foundation Inc.
