Blue Parrot Lands on Dickson Street

Dave Bass, the owner of Dave’s on Dickson, is renovating a 4,200-SF building at 603 W. Dickson St. in Fayetteville to house The Blue Parrot, a private club he plans to open by late August. The building previously housed Sound Warehouse, a music store. Many Fayetteville residents remember the structure as home to Polk Furniture.

Bass, a former manager of George’s Majestic Lounge, opened Dave’s on Dickson in March 1999 in a 8,900-SF warehouse at 245 Powerhouse Ave., just south of the building that will be home to The Blue Parrot. Richard Shewmaker is Bass’ landlord at both locations.

Bass said The Blue Parrot will have an “island/Caribbean theme” featuring an island bar (in the middle of the room), large aquarium, mock banana trees and possibly a house parrot.

Bass plans to replace the plate-glass windows at the front of the building with eight French doors that can be opened to provide a sidewalk-cafe atmosphere.

The Blue Parrot will have a full bar probably specializing in frozen drinks, Bass said. It will be open seven days a week from about 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. Bass said he doesn’t plan to serve food at The Blue Parrot.

Bass said the bar will compliment Dave’s on Dickson, which is a large music venue that is only open about three nights per week. There will be no live music at The Blue Parrot, he said.
