Beverly Enterprises Inc. has agreed to sell its American Transitional Hospitals subsidiary to Select Medical Corp., a privately-held company of Mechanicsburg, Pa. Closing, subject to customary regulatory conditions, is expected to occur by June 30. Terms of the sale were not disclosed.

American Transitional Hospitals has been a Beverly subsidiary since 1994.

ATH operates 15 long-term acute hospitals in eight states. Patients primarily require long-term, highly involved treatment programs.

David Banks, chairman and CEO of Beverly Enterprises, said in a prepared statement that the decision to sell was prompted by Beverly’s intention to focus on its core businesses.

Select Medical Corp., founded by Rocco and Robert Ortenzio in February 1997, provides long-term acute hospital services and rehabilitation services on an inpatient and outpatient basis.
