Mathias to Build Two KFC Mini-stores
Mathias Properties of Springdale plans to build two KFC convenience stores — one in Springdale and one in Rogers.
The new concept is being tested in New Mexico and West Texas but none exists in Northwest Arkansas.
“I think the only difference is when you pull up you’ll see gas pumps in front of a KFC,” said Curtis Wray, property manager for Mathias.
Wray said the stores will offer Kentucky Fried Chicken in addition to convenience store items. The store will also have booths for on-site dining.
Wray said one of the stores will be located adjacent to Ozark Center Point Place, formerly Ozark Factory Outlet Stores, which Mathias owns in Springdale.
The other KFC convenience store will be at the corner of 46th and West Walnut streets in Rogers. The large-scale development goes before the Rogers Planning Commission on March 7.
The Rogers store will be adjacent to a 14,900 building that Mathias plans to build at the site for retail stores. Mathias plans to purchase a 1.9-acre parcel of land for the project, Wray said. If approved by the Planning Commission, Wray said, he hopes the Rogers project will be complete by October. He declined to estimate the cost of the project.
Mathias Properties is owned by Sam Mathias. The KFC stores in Northwest Arkansas are owned by Bob Mott of Albuquerque, N.M.
