McDonald, Jones receive high school football honors

Ryan McDonald of Charleston was named the “Arkansas Player of the Year” and Magazine football coach Josh Jones received the “Frankie Vines Arkansas Coach of the Year” honor during the second annual Fort Smith Radio Group High School Football Awards Banquet held on Monday (Dec. 7) in Fort Smith.

McDonald, a senior running back, led the Tigers to an 11-1 record, the 3A-1 Conference Championship and a quarterfinal berth in the Class 3A state playoffs. Charleston won the 2008 state championship in Class 3A.

Jones led the Rattlers Tigers to a 12-1 record, the 2A-4 Conference Championship and a berth in the 2A State Semifinals. The 2009 season was the best ever season at Magazine.

Tyler Shook, a senior quarterback from Greenwood, was named the “Top Gun” award winner, Chris Dement of Paris was honored as the “Top Lineman,” Daniel Berry of Fort Smith Southside  was recognized as the “Defensive Player of the Year” and Tanner Knight of Fort Smith Northside was named “Newcomer of the Year.”
