Chad and Jennifer Tull’s three daughters inspired the opening of Girls N Sports, an athletic store. The eldest daughter, 9, loves playing softball, and in Northwest Arkansas, the Tulls had trouble outfitting her.

Jennifer Tull saw a marketing niche.

Girls N Sports — with racks stocked with girls’ apparel and equipment for softball, basketball, soccer and gymnastics — will also carry cheerleading, volleyball and swimming equipment by spring. Aside from the necessities, the shop offers accessories, such as hair ties and sports-related jewelry.

Less than $25,000 started the couple’s first business. They got the idea of the store from various sports retailers in California that market as vigorously to women as to men.

“Female athletes in sports are becoming a big deal,” Chad Tull said.

The couple are the only staff members for the store, but Chad Tull said they already had plans to develop a virtual storefront to receive online orders that will be managed by their existing staff.
