Litter-ally

In light of a recent Arkansans for Responsible Agriculture report that accuses Tyson Foods Inc. of violating Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality standards, we hear the Springdale poultry giant’s contribution to the 1999 Great Arkansas Cleanup has been a healthy one.

Tyson gave $15,000 in cash to the effort and is giving incentives for 100 employees at each of its 25 Arkansas manufacturing and office facilities to get involved. Tyson is also donating chicken to various anti-litter campaign picnics across the state, commercial air time during the television show Golfing Arkansas for the campaign’s public service announcements and used its corporate airplane to fly dignitaries to Little Rock for a news conference.

The Great Arkansas Cleanup, set for Sept. 11, was recently joined by University of Arkansas football coach Houston Nutt at a press conference at Tyson’s headquarters. The 30-year-old campaign is a project of the Keep Arkansas Beautiful Commission.
