Springdale Habitat for Humanity had a ground-breaking ceremony recently for “The House that Bernice Built,” a house for a single mother with two children in Springdale.

The house at 626 N. Mill St. is a community-driven project designed to honor Bernice Jones for her philanthropy work in Springdale.

Springdale Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, Christian housing ministry seeking to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness. The Springdale chapter bases its selection of families on three major criteria: need for adequate shelter, ability to pay and willingness to partner.

The Homebuilders Association held its sixth annual golf tournament Sept. 22 in Bella Vista to help raise money for the northwest Arkansas affiliates of Habitat for Humanity.
