The Army Corps of Engineers issued late Friday the following small craft advisory.

The Army Corps of Engineers has issued a small craft advisory for the Arkansas River in Arkansas because rains have pushed flows above safe levels for small craft.

Advisories are issued when flows exceed 70,000 cubic feet per second. Currents become swifter and stronger, and large debris is carried downstream.

Flows Friday at Trimble Lock and Dam at Fort Smith were rising and expected to climb above 140,000 c.f.s. during the day.

Flows at Dardanelle Lock and Dam at Russellville were about 93,000 c.f.s. Friday morning and expected to climb to about 160,000 c.f.s.

Flows Friday at Murray Lock and Dam at Little Rock and at Emmett Sanders Lock and Dam at Pine Bluff were about 60,000 c.f.s. and expected to climb above 200,000 c.f.s. by Sunday.

More rain could push flows higher or cause the advisory to remain in effect longer. All pleasure boaters are urged to stay off the river until flows recede to safe levels.
