A large crowd gathered Thursday night (Oct. 8) at 7000 Naples Way in Fort Smith to take a sneak peek at the the latest in homebuilding design, features and equipment incorporated into the 2009 Showcase Home.

The VIP preview reception, sponsored by Arkansas Oklahoma Gas Corp., also included special recognition for Justin Green and Mandy Walker. Green was the supervising contractor on the project, and Walker was responsible for interior decoration. Fort Smith homebuilder Ronnie Rouse, the builder of the association’s first Showcase Home, talked about that early effort.

The home, located in the Cisterna Villa subdivision in Chaffee Crossing (Fort Smith), is part of the 2009 Fall Parade of Homes sponsored by the Greater Fort Smith Association of Homebuilders. The parade officially kicks off Oct. 10 and ends Oct. 18, with the homes open from Noon to 6 p.m. each day. The 31 homes in the parade are priced between $117,000 and $339,000.

The Showcase Home is a 2,200-square-foot home built with an Italian villa look and priced at $269,500. Its features include custom wood cabinetry, video security system, custom audio system and covered patio with a natural gas grill.

Dave Hughes, executive director of the association, said the home is also a certified Energy Star rated home. The energy saving features include high-end insulation, special windows built to make efficient use of sunlight, and high-efficiency heating and cooling systems. Proceeds from the sale of the home go to fund the association.
