University of Arkansas at Fort Smith students Michaela Jester, Wade King and Katie Tyler are in South Korea for a year to teach English.

Takeo Suzuki, executive director of international relations for UAFS, said the three are taking classes at the University of Ulsan as part of the TaLK (Teach and Learn in Korea) program, sponsored by Korea’s Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.

"The University of Ulsan and UA Fort Smith signed a partnership agreement in 2007," Suzuki said. "Since then, we have sent seven students to Korea to participate in their programs."

Jester is a junior biology/pre-med major from Fort Smith. King is a junior business administration major from Fort Smith, and Tyler is a senior Spanish education major from Inola, Okla.

As selected participants in the TaLK program, the three UAFS students are provided a monthly allowance, round-trip airfare, living accommodations and additional benefits.

UAFS has 13 global partnerships with other universities. The partnerships provide for collaborative  research, education abroad programs, student and faculty exchanges, sharing of library resources and other opportunities, according to a UAFS statement.
