The University of Arkansas at Fort Smith Lady Lions volleyball team posted its second-consecutive sweep on Tuesday night (Sept. 1) beating Southwestern Oklahoma State University at the Stubblefield Center.

UAFS (4-1), whose only loss was a 3-2 setback to Drury University, won the match 25-21, 25-17, 25-14.

Sophomore Heidi Luks of Tallinn, Estonia, had 10 kills to lead an otherwise balanced Lady Lions’ hitting attack. Junior Lucia Najselova of Nitra, Slovakia, had a team-high 25 assists and seven digs. Sophomore Kaylen Bolten of Fort Worth, Texas, also had seven digs off the bench.

Sophomore Emily Walter led the Lady Bulldogs (0-5) with 10 kills, while senior Kristen Kaufman had a team-high 19 assists. Senior Jenny Naramore, who played two seasons for UAFS while it was still a junior college program, had five kills, one ace and two block assists.

UAFS will close out its four-game home stint at 2 p.m. on Saturday when it hosts Missouri Southern University at the Stubblefield Center.

GOLF TEAM
After solid first-round performances, the UAFS golf teams appeared well on their way to capturing championships in the Show Me Summer Shootout.

The Lady Lions shot a 51-over par 339 during the second round and finished second in the two-team field with a two-day score of 68-over par 644. Host William Woods University, which trailed UAFS by 10 strokes after the opening round, won the women’s division.

The Lions trailed first-round leader William Woods University by only two strokes, but they, too, struggled down the stretch, shooting a 7-over par 295 to finish third behind Williams Woods and McKendree College.
