Poll suggests Sen. Lincoln vulnerable in 2010
It’s good to be Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe but not so good to be U.S. Sen. Blanche Lincoln.
A new poll suggests Beebe has an impressive 78% approval rating, with 25% strongly approving of his job performance. Lincoln, the state’s senior U.S. Senator and a Democrat facing reelection in 2010, has a 49% approval rating with just 15% strongly approving of her job performance.
The new poll was conducted through a partnership with Brock, and Little Rock-based political consulting groups The Political Firm and The Markham Group. Brock and his TalkBusiness.net is a content partner with The City Wire.
The poll questions and results were:
Gov. Mike Beebe
Q: Do you approve or disapprove of the job Mike Beebe is doing as Governor?
25% Strongly approve
53% Somewhat approve
10% Somewhat disapprove
5% Strongly disapprove
7% Don’t Know
“As the numbers indicate, Gov. Beebe has an approval rating of 78%, while only 15% disapprove of his job performance. He scores well with Democrats, Independents and Republicans. Short of a George H.W. Bush freefall, Beebe cakewalks to a second term on the strength of these “super” numbers,” Brock noted in his commentary.
Sen. Blanche Lincoln
Q: Do you approve or disapprove of the job Blanche Lincoln is doing as U.S. Senator?15% Strongly approve
34% Somewhat approve
17% Somewhat disapprove
23% Strongly disapprove
10% Don’t Know
Q: If the 2010 election was held today and you had to make a choice, would you vote to re-elect Blanche Lincoln as our United States Senator no matter who ran against her?
27% Yes
60% No
13% Don’t Know
“For Republicans, these numbers signal weakness. A two-term incumbent below 50% with high disapproval ratings in the current political climate smells like a recipe for an upset,” Brock noted.
