EGS Wagers at Southland Top $1 Billion

Casino-style gambling at Oaklawn Park and Southland Park continues its steady rise and is on pace to reach nearly $2 billion this year.

According to figures released this morning from the Arkansas Racing Commission, Southland’s racino electronic games of skill (EGS) wagers nearly doubled in October compared to one year ago and the amount gambled cleared a new threshold — $1 billion.

October EGS wagers at the West Memphis-based racetrack and casino totaled $119.83 million, an 87% increase from October 2010.  Year-to-date, EGS wagers at Southland stand at $1.069 billion.

October EGS wagers at Hot Springs-based Oaklawn topped $55.29 million. That’s a 53% increase from one year ago. For the year, EGS wagers have cleared $546.44 million at Oaklawn.

EGS — Electronic Games of Skill — include video blackjack, poker and other gambling-style games.
