Brummett: Arrows Away
Political columnist John Brummett with our content partner, the Arkansas News Bureau, fires his up and down arrows in his most recent column. Taking aim at the state legislature, Brummett finds bipartisan highlights and lowlights in the winding-down session.
Some targets of Brummett’s compliments and criticism include Gov. Mike Beebe, House Speaker Robert Moore, Sen. Gilbert Baker, Rep. John Burris,
Rep. Darrin Williams and Rep. John Walker.
Of course, we couldn’t let this arrow-up pass:
New social media — Blogger Roby Brock of Talk Business did some of the steadiest reporting of the session. Democratic blogger Matt Campbell at bluehogreport.com did the most explosive reporting, revealing generous and potentially dubious legislative expense reimbursement practices. And I got so obsessed with Twitter conversations on the “arkleg” hash-tag that I now find myself in a kind of withdrawal. I miss such dear friends as “Snarkinsaw” and “Freedomwarrior.”
Certainly, the entire media and blog-o-sphere has developed in the last two sessions. Contributions from the AP, Stephens Media, KUAR, The Tolbert Report, the Arkansas Times, other citizen reporters and even legislators have made for a much more robust picture of what’s going on in committees and behind-the-scenes. It’s a very positive development.
There are many others receiving ups and downs. Check out Brummett’s full take at this link.
