Lu Hardin Sentenced To 5 Years Probation, 1,000 Hours Community Service

Disgraced former UCA President Lu Hardin was sentenced to 5 years of probation and 200 hours of community service annually for his role in a money laundering scheme.

Federal Judge James Moody imposed the lenient sentence, which could have been as tough as 10 years for money laundering and 20 years for wire fraud as well as monetary fines.

Moody said that probation was appropriate given Hardin’s loss of his job and law license. Hardin told Moody, "This conduct was not up to my standards… I made a horrendous mistake."

Hardin, who was president of UCA from 2002 until 2008, had attempted to bilk the university out of a $300,000 bonus to cover a gambling addiction and debts. His community service will involve educating others about gambling.
