Don Hiatt
Donald Yearton Hiatt of Charleston, Arkansas, died Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at Greenhurst Nursing Center in Charleston. He was born on November 16, 1931, in Charleston to the late H. Clyde Hiatt and Eula (Yearton) Hiatt. He was 94 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 68 years, Rebecca (Powers) Hiatt; a sister, Lucille Hiatt Phillips; and four brothers, Paul Hiatt, Bill Hiatt, Joe Hiatt, and Clyde L. “Pidgie” Hiatt.
Don was a retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam and Korean War veteran. After his military career, Don was a truck driver and a farmer. He was a 1949 graduate of Charleston High School, member of Golden Eagle Camping Club, and member of First United Methodist Church in Charleston. Don loved his family very much and will be missed by all who knew him.
A memorial graveside service, with “Full Military Honors” will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 24th at Fort Smith National Cemetery in Fort Smith, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston. Cremation and services are under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home.
He is survived by his daughter, Melinda Wilson and husband Donnie of Charleston; two grandchildren, Kausha Cox and husband Tyler of Charleston and Michael Wilson and wife Kayla of Charleston; five great-grandchildren, Callie Cox, Gracie Cox, Kolby Wilson, Kooper Wilson, and Kolton Wilson; and one great-great-granddaughter, Maylee Becca Grace Cox.
The family will visit with friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 23rd at the funeral home.
