Children’s Safety Center

The Children’s Safety Center of Washington County, which has been in operation for 29 years, provides a space for children who have suffered from alleged abuse to tell their stories and receive the support they need.

The Children’s Safety Center seeks to prevent retraumatization of children by offering five core services in one child-friendly environment. Advocacy, forensic interviewing and medical exams, mental health, and prevention education services are provided to children and their non-offending family members free of charge to ensure healing is always accessible.

The center works with partners in law enforcement and child protective services, as well as prosecutors and medical professionals. Following a $15 million capital campaign, the nonprofit moved its operations to a purpose-built, child-friendly building designed to support healing. The center reports providing initial services to 876 children in 2025.
