Harvey Eugene George, 81, of Alma, passed away Thursday, December 11, 2025 in Fort Smith. He was born January 27, 1944, in Danville, Arkansas, to the late Harvey and Leeottia (Mize) George. He married the love of his life, Glenda Sue in September 1966 after a whirlwind six-week courtship that began in the most unforgettable way – Sue intentionally dumped him out of a lawn chair after mistaking him for someone else. From that moment on, she had his attention, and he never wavered in his love for her.

Their marriage became a lifelong partnership filled with devotion, humor, and unwavering support. Together they raised two children, Marcia Fletcher (Ep) and Christopher George (Amy), who were his pride and joy.

Harvey dedicated his life to hard work, service, and protecting those he loved and his community. He served proudly as an Arkansas State Trooper, a role that reflected his steady character and allowed him to make an impact on countless lives. He also began driving a semi-truck for Walmart on his “days off work” in 1983 while still being a state trooper and then later continued his career driving for Walmart full time. His CB handle was Shoe Sole, which was a title he earned due to hauling shoes back/forth from a shoe warehouse for Walmart.

Harvey was also a gifted musician, playing piano “by ear,” as well as the harmonica and violin. Music was one of his purest joys. In his later years, if he wasn’t behind the wheel of a truck or playing a tune, he could be found riding his lawn mower. Staying productive brought him purpose, and he took pride not only in caring for his own yard, but also in tending the yards of neighbors and friends who needed a helping hand. He was a man who was always looking for a way to help others as part of his deep roots in his Christian faith.

Harvey’s quiet strength, easy humor and jokester ways, strong work ethic and the deep love he poured into his family and community will remain his lasting legacy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Murlene George, Earnestene George, and Christine Fisher, as well as his brothers, Tommy George and Chestene George.

He is survived by his wife Sue, his children, and his beloved grandchildren, Kale Fletcher, Connor George, Scout Fletcher, Brody George, Elliott George, and Milo George. He is also survived by his younger sister, Margaret Wylie (Ron), along with a host of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews who cherished him.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 19, 2025 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Alma, under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren, AR.

Pallbearers will be the Arkansas State Police honor guard.
