Ria Joi Hays, 71, of Fort Smith, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on May 24, 1954, in Springfield, Ohio, to Alice Pauline Brumfield Rix and James Marion Rix.

Ria married the love of her life, John Kennith Hays, on February 18, 1972, in Springfield, Ohio. They shared a long and devoted marriage until his passing.

Ria was a graduate of Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College in Moore, Oklahoma, where she earned her associate’s degree in Education. She later worked as a receptionist at Cooper Clinic, where she was known for her kindness, warm smile, and genuine care for everyone she met.

A creative spirit with a heart for others, Ria enjoyed crafting and cherished every moment spent with her family. Her gentle presence, encouraging words, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Ria is survived by her three children:

– John Richard Hays
– Teri Lyn Hays Smith (Charles Smith)
– Kelli Joi Hays Becker (Justin Becker)

She leaves behind ten beloved grandchildren:

– Sarah Grace Hays-Emmert
– Clay Christian Smith
– John Trevor Hays
– Abigail Madelyn Smith Koster (Byron Koster)
– Elisabeth Faith Hays
– Brayedon Timothy Jordan
– Alyssa Grace Jordan
– Kristian Joi Jordan
– John Ryan Jordan
– Kaige Nathanael Jordan.

Ria was also blessed with five great-grandchildren:

– Wrenley Elliott Koster
– Radolph Odin Emmert
– Ozzy Callum Koster
– Ayedon Oliver Michael Jordan
– Aries Skylar Timothy Jordan Hernandez.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Kennith Hays.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at Lewis Funeral Home, 4817 Kelley Highway, Fort Smith, AR 72904, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Ria’s life was filled with faith, family, and love. Her legacy will continue through the many lives she touched.
