Eric David Taft, M.D., passed away on November 3rd, 2025, at the age of 69. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 44 years, Eileen Taft M.D., as well as their two children, Erica Taft and David Taft, his daughter-in-law Cristin, and his beloved grandson Alexander.

He is also survived by his brother-in-law Tom Counihan, his sister-in-law Kathleen Sublette and her husband Mark Sublette, his two nephews Ian Counihan & Charles Sublette, as well as his sister Riva Johnson.

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Eric exemplified academic excellence and determination, completing his undergraduate studies at the University of Tulsa and his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. He completed a residency in pathology at UT Southwestern in Dallas and began a distinguished 35-year career in 1987 with Lab Medicine Associates in Fort Smith; ultimately serving as Laboratory Director at Mercy Hospital. His leadership and integrity left a lasting mark on the medical community.

Beyond his professional achievements, Eric embraced life with passion and humor. He was an avid traveler, grill master, photographer, voracious reader, scuba diver, and fisherman. Eric was also a gifted trumpet player, performing in the college marching band, and later in the community band.

Those who knew Eric will remember his dry sarcastic humor, his lightning-fast comebacks, his quiet strength, and his intellect. He pursued excellence in everything he did. He was the cornerstone of his family. It was an immeasurable gift of having known and loved him, and his influence continues to shape our lives.
