Derek Penix Workshop: Landscape and Still-Life Painting

This three day workshop will be one-on-one instruction, demonstrations, and critiques. The class will be using oil paint, and cover subject matter ranging from landscapes to still-lifes. The focus will be on light and shadow painting. Penix will discuss the importance of shape, value, color, edges, and composition as well as the elements of light and shadow painting and tonal painting. Students will focus on seeing in terms of mass and form rather than detail and line. There will be demonstrations, as well as individual critiques and instruction. Students should bring reference materials such as photographs.This class is designed for the intermediate to advanced student, but all are welcome.
