Two years ago, plans began to unfold to offer expanded internet service in Jonesboro. About half of the fiber network that was proposed has now been built Ritter Communications CEO Alan Morse told Talk Business & Politics.

Customers now will have access to 5-gig and 2-gig internet through the company’s RightFiber service.

The average U.S. household now has 22 connected devices. Morse said Ritter has been acquiring customers in Jonesboro since the fiber project started more than a year ago.

“The demand for fast, reliable fiber internet is greater than ever before, and it will only continue to grow as our customers become increasingly more reliant on smart devices that connect our homes,” he said.

The $45 million fiber project is one of several goals Jonesboro Mayor Harold Copenhaver said he hoped to accomplish during his first term as mayor. When he took office, one consistent complaint he got was the lack of internet options, he said.

“It quickly became apparent that our community wanted and needed better internet service,” the mayor said.

Ritter has been involved in more than $300 million worth of projects throughout the region in recent years. Morse said the company has been catering to underserved communities.

The Jonesboro project is about 50% complete and should be done by mid-2024, he said. Ritter and the city will have discussions about finding ways to reach into neighborhoods and other parts of the community that are not currently part of this project, Morse added.

“This is a red-letter day in the city of Jonesboro,” Copenhaver said.
