As we previously reported, home sales in Arkansas scored a second straight month of improvement in August after a lackluster start to the year.

The August monthly home sales report from the Arkansas Realtors Association showed statewide home sales rose nearly 20% compared to one year ago. Actual dollar transactions were up 11.6%, while average home prices dropped 7%.

"As the Arkansas Realtors Association predicted, Arkansas home sales for the month of August were strong," said Amy Glover Bryant, Director of Communications for the ARA. "Considering the bumpy nature of our local and national economy, we feel Arkansas home sales are doing very well for the year."

For the first 8 months of 2011, the number of homes sold in Arkansas is down 3.5% percent and average prices are down 2.6%.
