Santa made an early visit during the annual pancake breakfast and holiday market presented by the Women’s Community League of Alma. Approximately 300 adults and children came out to support the Boys and Girls Club of Alma during the event held Saturday morning (Dec. 3) at the Alma Boys and Girls Club.

Adult tickets for the breakfast were $4 and children tickets were $3. Tickets could be purchased in advance from any WCLA members and were also available at the door. Breakfast was pancakes and sausage with your choice of milk, juice, or coffee to drink. Pictures with Santa were free and were taken by Heritage Portraits. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Alma.

A hot breakfast was provided and local vendors were available for some early Christmas shopping. This is the second year local vendors provided a holiday market. Raffle tickets were also sold for $1 for two chances to win $500.

Jennifer Wood, treasurer of the Women’s Community League of Alma and also head of the event, stated “that typically the event brings in $1,800.” She also said “all food was provided by area businesses.”

Heritage Portraits provided a photographer so that children could have their picture made with Santa at no charge. Children also told Santa what their Christmas wishes were.

About 15 local vendors set up booths for the event. The wooden toys made by John’s Wood Toys was the most popular with the children. Wooden buses, cars, trucks, tractors, and bows and arrows were available. They were liked by both boys and girls. Adults could shop for jewelry, art pieces, and other items.

Wood said, “each year the annual event has grown.” She hopes next year the event will continue to grow. This event also “lets those who don’t have any other chance to see Santa and get a picture made with Santa.”

The Alma Boys and Girls Club serves approximately 150 students on a daily basis. The children are provided snacks and after school activities. The Alma Boys and Girls Club provides a safe place to learn and grow, ongoing relationships with caring, adult professionals, life-enhancing programs and character development experiences, and hope and opportunity.
