On Friday (Sept. 30) evening, a crowd of more than 1,500, including members of the 188th Fighter Wing and their families and Fort Chaffee Community Council members attended a private preview event of the Fort Smith Regional Air Show.

As a prelude to this weekend’s Air Show, a buffet-style meal was served, followed by a proclamation from Fort Smith Mayor Sandy Sanders declaring Friday, Saturday and Sunday as “United States Air Force Thunderbird Days” in the City of Fort Smith.

Finally, the crowd was treated to performances by several of the acts scheduled to perform on Saturday and Sunday, including The Aerostars, The U.S. Air Force’s F-15 Strike Eagle Demonstration Team, Vintage Thunderbird, Manfred Radius Glider and the Indy Boys Jet School Bus.

The evening’s festivities concluded with a colorful fireworks display.

The air show gates open Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 1-2) days at 8:30 a.m. and will close at approximately 5 p.m. Performances are slated to begin at approximately 9:20 a.m. (Link here for more details about parking, performances and static displays.)
