FCC approves Alltel-Verizon Wireless merger
The Federal Communications Commission approved this afternoon the $28 billion merger between Alltel and Verizon Wireless.
Despite a 5-0 vote, two FCC commissioners offered dissenting opinions on a decision that allowed the deal to go forward with Verizon honoring Alltel’s existing roaming agreements for four years.
Now that the FCC has approved the merger, private financing of the multi-billion dollar deal will be the final obstacle to closure.
