Western Arkansas Runners Tailgate $5 5-k

The race is directed by Fort Smith’s: Western Arkansas Runners "supporting local faces of all paces." A portion of the funds from this event, in partnership with the Fort Smith Police and Fire Department and the River Valley Habitat For Humanity, will go toward building a home for a local family in need.

For the recession-low entry fee of $5, you get a timed, marked 3.1 mile race with 1 water stop and mile-split timers. This is a flat, fast, looped course that tours the Historic District of Fort Chaffee. Perhaps more popular than the run is the "tailgate" portion of the event in which runners, families, and friends socialize while they enjoy: cold drinks, grilled hot dogs, snacks and pizza (yes hot delivered pizza from the club’s official pizza partner–PIZZA CORNER.) All this is included in the $5 entry fee!!

We do not fuss with t-shirts, bibs, timing-chips, or awards. Registration (begins at 6 pm) entails laying down a five dollar bill and signing a waiver. It is all about the running…and the eating and drinking!! Competitive runners like the race for the fast, flat course—a good chance to PR or test your race-readiness. Novices like it because it is a laid back atmosphere with friendly folks who share the same passion for running…even if it sometimes includes walking!
